18-Year-Old Wins the 2020 Supreme Champion Showmanship Contest

Anxious and excited. These are the two words Bailey Kasbee used to describe her feelings during the Supreme Champion Market Showmanship Contest. The 2020 showman competition at the Pennsylvania Farm Show was Bailey’s second year participating, and what a great second year it was for her with earning the title of Supreme Champion.

Bailey has been showing pigs for 10 years total and nine years at the PA Farm Show. She has always prided herself in showmanship and worked to receive the highest honor in her class. Her track record includes winning overall pig showmanship at the Farm Show, as well as earning sixth place in the 2019 Supreme Champion Market Showmanship Contest. This year, all she wanted to do was improve on last year’s performance and earn a spot in the top five.

As time drew nearer, and names continued to be called for placings, Bailey felt the rush of all emotions. She reached her goal of making the top five. Names continued to be called and now, she was in the top three. Bailey was in total disbelief when her name was called as Supreme Champion Market Showman, and just a month after the win, she still feels the same excitement as that night. “I had to let the win sink in for a couple weeks. Watching the video of the show and my name being called, still gives me butterflies.”

The Supreme Champion Market Showmanship Contest took place Monday, January 6 of the 2020 PA Farm Show. Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Master Showmen from each species is chosen to show the five animals: beef cattle, market lambs, market goats, market swine, and rabbits. They are judged on their showmanship skills and knowledge on each species. Prior to the ring show, a General Livestock Knowledge Test is given to each competitor, and counts towards the contestant’s cumulative score. The winner receives sponsored gifts from Green Mountain Energy and Eby Trailers, as well as having their named engraved on the Luke Svonavec Memorial Plaque.
